After Neil Gaiman I just need Tori Amos to come out as terf, Maynard James Keenan a nazi and my collection will be complete.

      @aerique

LOL I thought I typed feminists but by phone turned it into fetishists.

I'll keep the original because it's funny.

      Anyway, actual question was:

Do you think feminists are comparable to Nazis?

@aerique Then why would you post the thing you posted?

Maybe you don't realize that "terf" is just the new "feminazi."

Half of the old school feminists from my mum's generation, if not way more than that, are "terfs" now, from normie women like my mom and aunt, all the way to many of the world's leading feminist activists and thinkers like Alice Schwarzer, Germaine Greer, Julie Bindel, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

The whole "I support feminism, but not those evil terfs" thing is just the newest iteration of "of course I support the good moderate feminists, but not the evil man haters."

@aerique My detailed opinion on the term, based on my observations from the past ~10 years, can be found here:

      https://feministwiki.org/wiki/TERF

Long story short, I see it as a slur used to brand feminists as evildoers, for not doing feminism in the way that some (arguably very sexist) people want them to.

(Page needs updating to reflect the increasing trend of women "reclaiming" the term, defiantly calling themselves "terf." This is basically like women calling themselves a "bad bitch" in jest. Haven't updated it in a while.)

I say this is my opinion, because I've written that page mostly myself, but to be clear, this is the established viewpoint among the feminists I'm networked with.

There are many people who consider themselves feminists and object to this perspective, but in most cases, these seem to be people who are concerned with chasing abstract ideologies that are currently fashionable in their peer group, disregarding real issues that many women face.

        TERF - FeministWiki
TERF is a slur used by transgender activists to debase anyone who criticizes their movement on the basis of feminist concerns.

@taylan So either you misinterpreted what I wrote or I am indeed using the wrong terms.

What I tried to convey in my original post is with the recent news of Neil Gaiman, someone whose writing I enjoyed a lot, I only need two more people from my past that I admired to come out as awful people.

I was not saying Tori Amos is a "terf" at the moment.

Does this clear things up or do you think I should not use the term at all?

Reading your post above I am not clear on your opinion of that term.

@aerique I don't want to control anyone's language. I'm merely saying what my view is, and why I'm dismayed about the popular trend of labeling people as "terf" and putting it alongside things like "fascist" or "nazi."

@taylan Right, I get your point and I perhaps should not have used a different label for Tori in my original post.

Do you want me to change it or just keep it as it is with this thread attached as clarification?
