翠星石 (suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com)'s status on Monday, 13-Jan-2025 22:13:49 JST 翠星石 @sally @adiz Some old cars are quite polluting, but of course governments don't want to do something actually environmental beneficial, like requiring that the manufacturer provide the source code to the ECU software so the emissions can be improved, or standardizing engine mounts, so you can put 500,000km on an engine and then drive into any mechanic and get a new engine with better emissions within the hour and drive away, but of course not.
Instead, a brand new car needs to be manufactured, full of proprietary software and poor quality components that fall apart after 200,000km. -

The reason people bitches about it is that this is a problem of capitalism and the state, but the only ones getting bullied for it are individuals. Europe keeps fucking people in the ass, banning old cars because mUh pOlLuTiOn, but brand new proprietary and spyware plagued cars of course would be allowed. -

But, there's absolutely nothing that I, the individual, can do about it. The primary culprits behind it are corporations and the market at large, not the individuals. Individual contribution to pollution of any sort of negligble compared to that of companies/market entities and governments.
