@LeanderZeichnet I feel the part about Youtube: spending far too much time there. For an about 30% chance that I’ll actually get something useful out of the video. After pre-selection (not autoplay).
And for only having once every few months an experience that matches playing a computer game for the same amount of time. Why didn’t I just play BG3 yesterday?

Youtube changed from people recording stuff because they loved it to people recording stuff for kind-of-a-living with sponsorship and constant fear that the algorithm might punish them for something they can’t even know so they would have a hard time to make ends meet the next month.
Could call it professionalization. Or corrupted.

I watch YouTube for stuff like car maintenance videos, but increasingly I find I have to watch about 3-5 of them (in both English and German) to get a decent amount of info, often fast-forward the self promotion stuff, remember that if its interior items everything is swapped round between left and right and *still* read my copy of "So wird's Gemacht" (Haynes in UK stopped making paper workshop manuals for my car)

@katharsisdrill I don’t see professionalization as itself as a problem, but professionalization that makes the creatives dependent on advertisements, sponsorship and platforms that do not actually have the interest of the creatives in mind.
Creatives should ideally be paid by their fans. But paying people is actually still hard.
I remember with horror how paypal once blocked my account for two months because I received a 200€ donation. Because of unexpected activity …

interestingly the German car detailers (Detailing School) are still fairly decent - but I suspect its because the lad in Brandenburg has at least one professional detailing garage as his main business and works with some lads of Turkish ancestry in Hesse who sell the products, the other in Switzerland genuinely does it just as a hobby (and cars will of course get dirty anyway, whether or not Youtube existed 😁 )

The goal is a digital currency with the privacy properties of buying in a shop with cash.
They took up GNU Taler (micropayments where the sender is anonymous to the bank, but the receiver — shop — is not, so it can be taxed reliably) and are scaling it up for banks.

@katharsisdrill shortly after NGI Taler started, the banks jumped up with something different that got all the publicity.
Technically excellent solutions that align their requirements to societies need seem to always have an uphill battle.
(that said: NGI Taler is actually supported by the EU, so while it’s an uphill battle in some areas, in others it’s possible to get support that might provide the push so we get really good solutions)
