     The modern image of Christ is one that has evolved recently due to Christianity's need to compete with other more humanist philosophies.

     There were a lot of Bible passages that I was told were "difficult" to interpret when I was a Christian.

     Once I got a chance to give it a critical look, it turned out they aren't hard to understand unless you are committed to never condemning the wealthy. They are only "difficult" because the people reading them point-blank refuse to understand the plain meaning of the texts.
