    New $120 16GB Raspberry Pi 5 is for the people who use it like an everyday PC
    But at $120, the new board has to compete with a wider universe of mini PCs.

      @xenotar "better" is a personal opinion... horses for courses.

      @xenotar No, but I haven’t stated, w/out providing evidence one way or the other, that either is « better » than the other. Hence , « better » is a personal opinion. I use several RP5 devices and can state that for the use context I mention, an increase in RAM would be beneficial.

      @older @arstechnica is the price for a 8G board plus a 256 emmc card. The board alone costs ~$50.

      @xenotar
      It looks like $80 is a price for 8GB model? Then it is the same price as RPi 8Gb, so not cheaper. And software and community support on all these alternative "Pis" was always awful compared to RPi.

      I didn't make a comparison, I wrote:
      "Orange Pi 3b is a better option ($80)"
      because with 8G of RAM and a 256G emmc it is a more capable system than the other with 16G, if necessary add an NVME SSD
      And as someone mentioned, if an application requires more than 8G there are several mini-PC options that offer more robust solutions than both of these development boards.
      I don't think that Rockship's change of position affects the RK3566 used in this development board, only future projects.

      So not really comparable to 16Gb RPi. Also software support prospects are not very bright with the news like this:

        "I was told Rockchip no longer considers RK3588 to be an “open source” chip. In practice, that means Rockchip no longer contributes RK3588 code to open-source projects and they also decided not to sell RK3588 directly to SBC vendors." https://www.cnx-software.com/2024/12/21/rockchip-rk3588-mainline-linux-support-current-status-and-future-work-for-2025/ This, paired with Joshua Riek stepping away from ubuntu-rockchip, doesn't bode well for RK3588's SBC futures. Maybe why Radxa is going with a different vendor for their next flagship board, the Orion 6?

      You've never used Armbian or Ubuntu on an Orange Pi, have you?
      I didn't imagine that there were Raspberry fans who behave like Apple fans, Raspberry doesn't need to be defended by you, by acting like this you've made this place as unhealthy as X. I'm going to silence the fanatics
      Bye
