With this current Fedi exodus from Meta platforms and X, I'd like to ask: Could we PLEASE remove the file size limit for posting photos and other images to Mastodon and Pixelfed? They get compressed anyway, so why should the user also have to their own compressing before uploading?

@mntyfrsh @dansup @pixelfed Removing such limits altogether exposes the service to denial of service attacks. The limits are pretty high at the moment though, I am a photographer and I have no issues uploading high resolution photos. What limit are you running into?

@Gargron @dansup @pixelfed Ah, that makes sense (preventing DDOS attacks).
Unedited 26 megapixel JPG files from my mirrorless camera tend to be in the 17 MB range (just over the 15 MB limit in Pixelfed and 16 MB limit in Mastodon.social).
Although 26 megapixels is more than enough for my needs, it is on the lower end of most modern mirrorless cameras produce these days (with a few exceptions), so others with higher end cameras than mine might have it worse than I do posting pics here and PF.
