New World Indigo (indigo@shitposter.world)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Jan-2025 04:46:28 JST New World Indigo @coolboymew I played this games as a kid. It was... an odd experience.
The first level takes place in a prison if I remember correctly, I know there was a lunch lady boss and I think a warden boss who I could never beat as a kid.
N64 had some weird shit on it, man... :an64:-

cool_boy_mew (coolboymew@shitposter.world)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Jan-2025 04:46:21 JST cool_boy_mew @ooignignoktoo @Indigo I got lucky with that one. I think it got it at a used mom and pop pawn shop before the times of "muh collector" cleaning out everything everywhere -

cool_boy_mew (coolboymew@shitposter.world)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Jan-2025 04:46:21 JST cool_boy_mew @ooignignoktoo @Indigo At the mini-microplay, I got Pikmin 2 at a decent price, Dragon Warrior 7, Lunar 1 Complete on PS1 with all bonuses except the cloth map I think? (Or was that for 2?), Fatal Frame 1 and 2 (I Goozex'd one of them, survival horror is really not my genre) and a bunch more Snes games -

cool_boy_mew (coolboymew@shitposter.world)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Jan-2025 04:46:21 JST cool_boy_mew @Indigo @ooignignoktoo Tomba 2! (the disc is a bit fucked however)
I couldn't believe DW7. I asked the guy if he had hidden PS1 games, he told me "I don't have much..." he had fucking Dragon Warrior 7
I also got MMX collection on GC for quite cheap months after release. Same with Mega Man Mega Collection and Sonic Gems Collection toowaifu repeated this. -

ooignignoktoo (ooignignoktoo@shitposter.world)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Jan-2025 04:46:22 JST ooignignoktoo @coolboymew @Indigo I still remember the local video rental place from when I was a kid I rented a few obscure SNES games from such as Brain Lord. I wanted a real cart of the game but it's stupid prices now.
The video store I used to go to got turned into a Zumba Fitness and I think that closed it's doors a few years back too. -

cool_boy_mew (coolboymew@shitposter.world)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Jan-2025 04:46:23 JST cool_boy_mew @ooignignoktoo @Indigo yes, same company. The store was a video rental store, along with a small section with a few playable stations and a small corner of new and used games. IIRC it was a mini-"Microplay", which they owned the brand to at some point. Honestly, it was a really, really nice store at the time, a seriously nice hybrid. Of course, they didn't have everything, but they could order it for you
Came at a time when most mom and pop video game stores died, but buying online was not quite popular/there yet and video rental was still far from dead. This was also genius for the small nowhere suburbia corner I lived in that had very little in term of stores and proper stores were 1h or so away, as it filled a bunch of niches at the same time -

ooignignoktoo (ooignignoktoo@shitposter.world)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Jan-2025 04:46:24 JST ooignignoktoo @Indigo @coolboymew I think I bought mine for $20 at gamestop in 2005. Skies of Arcadia I paid $15 for at a FYE store in my local mall at the end of the Gamecube's life. I was kinda tempted to liquidate my gamecube games because my gamecube is modded to play games off an SD card now and while the disk drive works the lens are aged / dying. I had to recap a board and turn down a resistor dial quite a bit for it to read disks. -

cool_boy_mew (coolboymew@shitposter.world)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Jan-2025 04:46:24 JST cool_boy_mew @ooignignoktoo @Indigo I recall when everyone on gamefaqs in the US was "Game is unfindable!" "No you cannot tell Gamestop to order it for you"
I went to a local game shop that was unique in Québec, Super Club Vidéotron, which was half a rental store, half a game store. I asked them if they could order it and they did :shrugz:
I REALLY miss that store. Despite being in a remote-ish place, I got so much fucking rare shit in the used section it's crazy -

New World Indigo (indigo@shitposter.world)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Jan-2025 04:46:25 JST New World Indigo @ooignignoktoo @coolboymew That's what I've heard, I consider that insane considering how little there is to that thing, but collectors items are seldom such due to their practical utility. I also remember seeing a copy of Twin Snakes at a game store back in the day (this was about 2009-10) for about 40 bucks which I passed on since it was a little too pricey.
If only I knew... :venomsnakedemon2: -

New World Indigo (indigo@shitposter.world)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Jan-2025 04:46:26 JST New World Indigo @coolboymew Yeah, I think the original Chibi-Robo is probobly the most expensive game I own now, or that Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire Box thing that was effectively just a storage tool.
Gamecube/PS2 stuff being "retro" will never stop feeling weird to me, even though I'm cognitively aware that 2005 was in fact 20 years ago, those will always be "new" consoles to me. :oldsnake: -

Isn't a copy of box like $1,500-2,000 nowadays. I know Chibi Robo is pretty pricey too.
I think my most expensive Cube game is Skies of Arcadia : Legends or maybe Metal Gear Solid :Twin Snakes. -

New World Indigo (indigo@shitposter.world)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Jan-2025 04:46:27 JST New World Indigo @coolboymew Yeah, I used to own it in box too, I sold it and most of my N64 collection back in 2011ish to finance a PS3.
I don't even want to talk about how little I got for some of those games or what they would be worth today... :depressed:
Although I do still have a lot of my Gamecube games, which are apparently really expensive now too, so it is what it is. -
