American food media: ‘here’s a simple weeknight meal!’
Me: this is too simple, I wouldn’t like that
Chinese food media: ‘here’s a simple weeknight meal!’ (4 dishes, 6 pots, 10 ingredients)
Me: mmmm yes the simple meals I love

Hyperbole? Lol no top right and bottom left of this screenshot literally says ‘simple everyday dinners’
This Onion story makes me laugh: https://theonion.com/perfect-one-pot-six-pan-10-wok-25-baking-sheet-dinne-1820847016/
I do like to cook ‘simple meals’ like that. My complex meals are multi-day things that require special procurement, multi-day steps. My simple meals are many pots and pans, but honestly if you figure out timing and process for wok-cooking you can do it all in one wok!
@Legit_Spaghetti labor issues and industrialized food. Plenty of traditional American foods are plenty good. People just don’t eat like that anymore, and don’t have the time. Food deserts and supply chain fuckery also means people are very detached from food sources.
I’m very allergic to the Bon Appetite style of ‘fancy food’ coz I think that lens is unnecessarily elitist. I’m curious about food cultures of the South and think they probably represent the type of food culture I feel very familiar in.
@skinnylatte As someone who's got a pretty wide first-hand cultural perspective, why do you think typical American food is so... [gestures broadly at the endless parade of monstrosities to be found on dinner tables across the nation] relative to other regional cuisines?
@skinnylatte may I ask where do you get executive function spoons for that?
@libroraptor I always say if I were a straight woman I would absolutely refuse to cook at all Ahahaha
@skinnylatte My sister-in-law hates cooking. My nephews and nieces have hence come to appreciate even a two-pot meal.
@xgebi food is my special inteeest that connects me to my culture, so it’s something I prioritize. Not eating like this makes me sad and unable to do other things
