@BowsacNoodle @dictatordave @kf01 I used to get the exact same effect from doing jazzercise, but eventually my joints vetoed that.

@dictatordave @BowsacNoodle @kf01 Mental toughness is also known as self-control, which all the Fathers of the Church taught must constantly be practiced. Protestants disavow the Church and the Fathers, and lo, we have a dire crisis of self-indulgence in the rotten gay West. Weird, innit.

@LawrenceGerald @dictatordave @kf01 Let's not throw stones. Temperance movement was a big deal in Protestant circles and still is. Christian freedom is a tough concept for all, and I still have to check myself regularly to avoid giving in to fleshly temptation (I still fail regularly too).

@LawrenceGerald @BowsacNoodle @kf01 i think its just finding pursuits appropriate for your ability and interest
imo the mental toughness component plays a roll in a lot of the problems of people in general

@BowsacNoodle @dictatordave @kf01 I dislike swimming for some reason. This year I'm going try a rebounder, just for the cardio. I do a fair amount of physical labor on our smallholding but it doesn't quite give me the happy feeling a good cardio effort did.

@LawrenceGerald @dictatordave @kf01 Manual treadmills are good alternatives. Not as hard on your joints since it's less speed and more HIIT. You crank elevation to get more workout for the same time and speed.

@LawrenceGerald @BowsacNoodle @kf01 i was kinda thinking as in like running a long race or pushing through 1 more monster set of lifting, or not krumping out and being a dick to your mountaineering partners
my buddy and i were just discussing why we think guys in their 40s dominate the endurance race scene, and its probably because their mental fitness is at peak

@dictatordave @BowsacNoodle @kf01 is that not self-control? the body says "quit now, I'm tired" and you override it because reasons

@LawrenceGerald @dictatordave @kf01 I think I'm this case they're pretty much synonymous. Toughness in the sense of ignoring and pushing through the metaphorical voice in your head that tells you to stop. I used to freedive and it's crazy how much you can resist the desire to breathe. Some of it is physical but a lot of mental aspects too. Mind-body connection might be another thing to lump in here.
