@Ladyfat I don’t do cash, but had thought for a while I should have a stash, so when I sold the old car I just tucked it away. So: all of the above!

I also find it easier to keep on top of spending when you have to physically remove cash from your wallet instead of just tapping the card. KeepTakingTheSoma likes this. -

Paid her rent in cash with exact change so "the landlord won't know that I have more money and raise the rent". She paid bills that had to be mailed by check, but otherwise only cash.
I found out when I went to run errands for her one winter and she asked me to cash her pension check. The bank wouldn't let me and would only deposit it (understandable since they had no way of knowing who I was and that I would hand her the cash). The teller told me that it was quite common for her generation to leave the bank with a lot of cash and that there were a few customers that they really worried about. -

Flick ?? (flick@spinster.xyz)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Dec-2024 06:15:42 JST Flick ?? @Fullycaffeinated @HebrideanHecate @Ladyfat These days there are a few things that she physically can’t do with cash or a cheque any more, so Mr’s nephew does it online with his card and she then gives him cash.
The only actual day-to-day cash I use is when I buy her something from the shops and she gives me cash back, which I then use for either sewing group subs or, if it’s building up in my purse, a bottle of wine and other bits from the cafe mid-shopping-week.

The most we have in is whatever I might have in my purse, never very much, and what himself has in wallet, usually about 60 quid.

Lady Bexington (ladyfat@spinster.xyz)'s status on Tuesday, 31-Dec-2024 06:15:53 JST Lady Bexington @Fullycaffeinated @Flick @HebrideanHecate I deliberately use cash more nowadays because
When we went on holiday the hotel, theme park and restaurant were all cashless!
Friend had a ‘Universal Credit’ (uk benefit for (mainly) in work people with low incomes) review and they were incredibly intrusive and it shocked me. Asking things like “why did you withdraw £200 from outside Plymouth Aldi on the 5th of May”, and “why did you receive £20 from JoeBloggs on September 6th”
As you say the bank and everybody else certainly doesn’t need to know everything I do.

I don't like the idea of anyone other than myself being able to track every penny I spend. KeepTakingTheSoma likes this. -

If they don't want to say where it comes from and what they spend it on then I want the same for me.
So the cash is the answer.
