Google finally did it. Is it time to switch to Firefox? I believe users should be in control of what they can install and use on their desktop or laptop. There's uBlock Origin Lite, which replaces the original uBlock Origin for Chrome and similar browsers. Give it a try.
@snagburz@nixCraft DNT was dropped because it ended up being a tracking vector itself (another bit of fingerprinting information) and nobody honored it. If you want to stop tracking you have to block it forcefully (UBO) not ask politely.
@nixCraft I've found that you better quit using Firefox., too They have stopped offering the "Do Not Track" options. There's a fork named #LibreWolf, you ca use instead.
@paul@nixCraft Google didn't "get its codebase from Chromium". Chromium is just their name for the source code when it's not built with Google Chrome branding. They made and control it all and nobody else understands it well enough to make a fork that can avoid copying every major policy decision Google makes for it.
@niavy@paul@nixCraft Being deGoogled means the Google account and service integration is disabled so it's not phoning home to Google and letting Google RCE you. It doesn't mean it lacks all of the harmful js & extension api policies Google baked in, though.
@nixCraft Firefox? They bought an ad company earlier this year and they've been requiring signed extensions since ~2014 so you can't install everything you'd want. It's like one step away from disabling uBlock Origin.
