     @rayckeith are you saying that the character only inspired him because he was black? An Asian father/son, or middle Eastern characters wouldn't have faced the same trials of single parenthood? Wouldn't have inspired him?

     I think "seeing someone like you" is probably more about circumstance and role, than skin color.

     @rayckeith I remember Kelsey Hightower talking about how he was at a conference and later another Black man approached him and told him something like "I brought my son here to see you, to know that people like us can do this work and speak at these conferences and be listened to and respected." And as a white guy who's never had to wonder if he would be taken seriously, that hit me right between the eyes.

     Representation matters.
