@Chronic-Yonic Funny, init? They are ready to hide behind consent, and they happily compare working at McDonald's to getting fucked by strangers 12 times a day, but somehow, I've never completed the circle and said "but he consented to make be a big Mac!".

@GrumpyOldNurse @Chronic-Yonic Even when they're trying to justify it, they always compare prostitution to one of the really shitty jobs. Usually either cleaning or flipping burgers. You never hear them compare prostituted women's 'agency' to that of estate agents.

@EatKnitSleepAgain @GrumpyOldNurse @Chronic-Yonic show the contempt they have for cleaners and restaurant workers

@stephagain @EatKnitSleepAgain @GrumpyOldNurse @Chronic-Yonic I think you've hit the nail on the head there.

@EatKnitSleepAgain @GrumpyOldNurse @Chronic-Yonic I clean for a living. I have decent pay for what I do. I have decent working conditions.
It is not comparable to prostitution.

@KeepTakingTheSoma @EatKnitSleepAgain @GrumpyOldNurse @Chronic-Yonic they really do, I have worked hotel cleaner and fast food , I really don't feel like my expereince is comparable to prostitution AT ALL . in absolutely no way it has something in common with prostitution

@KeepTakingTheSoma @GrumpyOldNurse @Chronic-Yonic I used to clean for a living. My post was not meant as a dig at cleaners, and I hope it didn't come off that way.

@EatKnitSleepAgain @GrumpyOldNurse @Chronic-Yonic Not at all. I interpreted it as a dig at those who consider such jobs beneath them, but want someone to do them, nevertheless.
It also comes out in those who are in favour of prostitution for *progressive* reasons, but wouldn't do it.
We also saw it in lockdown, where rich people in cushy zoom jobs signalled their virtue by telling the rest of us to stay at home, while requiring minimum wage workers to bring them stuff.

@KeepTakingTheSoma @EatKnitSleepAgain @Chronic-Yonic I worked as a hotel chambermaid in my younger days. I have to say, IMO, nursing is closer to 'sex work' than cleaning is, yet I never hear any of these self declared 'left' wing prosexwork hero of the downtrodden wanks say "fellating strangers for money is exactly like starting 15 IVs in pre-op".
It's almost like there's an element of ::gasp:: classism in their (un) material analysis.

@KeepTakingTheSoma @EatKnitSleepAgain @Chronic-Yonic Which is historically hilarious to me, because before Flo made is socially acceptable, the attendants in military hospitals were female convicts, mostly prostituted women. Contrast this with the religious orders that also, historically, provided attention to the sick and injured.
My job has a weird history.
