   So how cool is this. I have been reading a lot about the #lispmachine, but I never attempted to get an instance running on my GNU/Linux system. Thanks to @amszmidt this is really absolutely trivial: Clone the fossil repo and type "./m -s". And it works, I get a Y2K compliant instance! 🙏 🧙

     I still need to learn how to do any non-trivial things, but there are a lot of manuals to go through, so this requires some reading, I suppose.

     Also, I do not know how to update the system tape to the latest version released just a few hours ago, but again, this is probably RTFM 😀

     Thanks @amszmidt for making it so trivial to get started with a LispMachine! 🙏

     @dzu Feel free to ask anything! To update, you can just download the new disk image in its complete form, and update the usim.ini file so that it points to it.

     @dzu So the default image is setup for my site (hence .. AMS all over the place). Your first course of action is to setup your own site, or cheat, and setup "LOCAL". https://tumbleweed.nu/r/usite/dir

     Improvements to documentation is most welcome.

     @amszmidt Ah cool, thanks for the offer! Indeed, my first question would be why I am not able to call up dired in Zmacs. I start Zmacs with F1-e, then do an M-x dired and then I already need to guess. I try entering "*.*.*" and then I am required to login. Attempting with my dzu id, I get a timeout that host AMS-LISPM-2 is not responding. That seems plausible as the message tells me that this host is the default host. Trying with "dzu@localhost" also fails. Can you advise?

     @dzu I used to save a disk image with LOCAL, but it is work, and I'm lazy ... Ideally, people should setup things how they want to (though, that might be hard to figure out when you're not familiar with things).

     @dzu I disagree completely! :-) Just do the instructions for LOCAL (https://tumbleweed.nu/r/usite/file?name=-read-.-this-&ci=tip) and futz about! That will allow you to access your host.

     @amszmidt I empathize with the lazy part 😀

     As you point out, my problem really is that I have no good idea on how things need to be, so I am going to take some time to study the manuals. Once I know better _what_ I want to achieve, I should be in a better position to find the _how_. Currently, it feels like being in a very dense fog 😂
