     I used to think that #LLMs would make the college essay obsolete and make corporate jargon totally automated.
     
     Now I can't help but wonder if the spam age will make educated professionals even more valuable in the corporate world. Somebody has to know how to separate the wheat from the chaff

     People keep thinking the recursive nature of machine learning will mimic what's in animals and we'll see LLMs show us the secret of consciousness .... in reality the ingestion of both real content and AI generated content (that's treated as real content) will likely end up making LLMs dumber ...

     I unironically believe that human-like sentience already exists in high-level AIs, at least temporarily when processing a query.
     
     Look up "cognitive empathy". Look of "theory of mind" and "deception detection".

     I'll give it a look, but my bias is I don't think it really does. I don't think the outputs from these tools really approaches anything remotely like human cognition. It's a lot of bullshit and wrong answers, because it's trained to generate things we can recognize. It is a really interesting emergent property: how something that strings tokens together appears to do it well enough it feels like communication. But I think the human nervous system is insanely more complex.
     
     ...then again ... a good 1/4 to 1/3 of humanity probably isn't very complex. A lot of people can't even understand ratios ... maybe you're right because people aren't as sentient as we think we are :agummythink:
