kaia (kaia@brotka.st)'s status on Wednesday, 11-Dec-2024 00:49:02 JST kaia @lucy dunno, depends on the quality :l_think: way too much for the size of the stick though.
difficulty is the material. it can't be ceramics, since the seal won't stick. it can't be plastic, because it would feel flimsy and break when getting the hot wax on it.... -

Legit_Spaghetti (legit_spaghetti@mastodo.neoliber.al)'s status on Wednesday, 11-Dec-2024 00:55:08 JST Legit_Spaghetti @kaia I like the concept, but I'd probably texture the point where you pour in the wax with ridges so that the seal kind of "grips" the shell and doesn't just slide off when you pull the two halves apart. Also needs to be placed in such a way that the wax doesn't seep through the crack between the halves and ruins the USB plug.
This is a fun design challenge!

kaia (kaia@brotka.st)'s status on Wednesday, 11-Dec-2024 00:57:15 JST kaia @Legit_Spaghetti fully agreed. traditionally when creating a seal to "glue on" something, a ceramic or stone plate was used so it doesn't stick. this looks ceramic-y -

:blobcatflower: (methyltheobromine@netzsphaere.xyz)'s status on Wednesday, 11-Dec-2024 00:57:28 JST :blobcatflower: @kaia it can be wood ig and the range of quality there is huge. wood is also relatively easy to process using simple tools.
idk if the pigments of the wax used for the seal would leave a stain once removed if that's of any concern.kaia likes this. -

kaia (kaia@brotka.st)'s status on Wednesday, 11-Dec-2024 00:58:33 JST kaia @lucy I don't think that's a concern. if it's wood, you could make it fairly cheap with 16MB sticks or similar for ad agencies as prestigious holiday gift with sth on it (malware) -

Fish in the percolator (lain@lain.com)'s status on Wednesday, 11-Dec-2024 01:22:06 JST Fish in the percolator @lucy @kaia I’d contact Chinese sellers who already make wooden usb sticks, I’m sure something can be worked out. kaia likes this.
