   Hank Green coping and seething about social media algorithms from a popular (monetized) YouTube channel is pretty hilarious.
   Institutions don't deserve trust. Trust without accountability and transparency is devotion.
   
   What's fascinating is that he compares "the Internet" to radio, broadcast television and the printing press. He fails to make the distinction between the free and open web (the actual decentralized media revolution) and centralized social media (the broadcast systems).
   
   This is because, most of his rant is about how the rabble's dirty opinions need to be contained so that things don't get carried away. Instead he would rather we return to an age where our 'betters' inform us what's true and lecture to us in a "less noticeably partisan way".
   
   This is what disgusts me about these people. They want all the trappings of 'democracy', but the moment that means things have to change... suddenly we need to be cautious and avoid 'recklessness'. As if these institutions and powers haven't been reckless in their own right.
   
   I can't wait until 2030 when vlogbrothers lecture us on the moral imperative of dying in the middle east.

     @sun @gabriel Yes. Where they have to compete equally with every other post made to the timeline at the same time. That is a humbling experience, to realise that your voice is not that special.
