   just woke up from a dream with the craziest ui element. fedi got an update with butterfly ui.
   
   basically, you could create butterflies, about the size of an avatar, and they could either be still, or could flap their wings (open/close). you could fill the butterflies with a solid color, pattern, or image. at first people used this to add zalgo text to their display names, since you could place butterflies with infinite precision within text fields, but some people very quickly figured out they could be used to add pretty patterned backgrounds to posts if you aligned the butterflies just right and cancelled out the borders. then someone figured out how to make them display text, and a wave of butterfly posters took off, where people would make huge blinking distorted text, and for some reason it was the funniest shit ever.
   
   why are my dreams like this. why can't i see something normal

     seriously earlier in the year, when i stumbled over this as a proposal for an icon for :butterfedyC: fediverse i thought it was the only real choice, it is either this or putting a pentogram on ur website.

     @jeffcliff @Stellar @zonk lol yes, and actually i remember doing the research and our butterflies were in a coccoon for like 3 years lol, the original designer just added the quotation mark eyes a year ago, before that it looked very similar but it was made up of layering triangles. it didnt look bad but this looks much butter.

     i believe Gabe is still hosting the whole set here (i2p/b32, tor)
