In some countries, if you fail to pay a bill on time, you are sent a reminder notice.

    Not in France.

Since 2019, there is the Saisie administrative à tiers détenteur (SATD), which allows a party (usually a government body) to simply sieze the money from your bank account.

We paid this bill five months ago, but today received a SATD notice via our bank saying they were seizing the same amount (+ fees of course).

No reminder + we have paid already. The cheque cleared months ago.

    😠

      Oh no! He's back.

Heard loud barking outside. Couldn't see anything from the windows, so opened the front door to find out what was going on.

The little dog was standing outside barking, apparently to get our attention. I suppose it would be difficult for him to knock. As soon as I opened the door he trotted up to say hello and now is exploring our house, probably wondering where the sausages are kept.

      *sigh*

He seems quite cold. No idea whose dog this is.

At this point, a white Citroen van came by. This is an old farming couple and their two dogs. They are almost always together, and they have two German Shepherds who start barking excitedly as soon as they see us.

Little dog was off. Jumping up on the side of the van as it drove slowly by, barking and chasing along the road. They waved a stick out the window to discourage it, but it kept jumping up and chasing.

So we waved goodbye to our canine friend and went home. I'm sure he'll be back.

So we went out again along the road this time, determined to take him to a house that we know has several dogs. They, at least, will have the number for the vet.

Dog lead us along the road, stopping often to make sure we were following. Got the distinct impression we were being walked by the dog.

He showed no interest in the house, and wanted to keep going along the road. We stopped to see what he'd do.

M le chien wasn't very interested in leaving. We think this might be the same dog we met in the forest a few years ago. We walked it to the edge of the forest and it ran off in the direction of the nearest farmhouse.

So we walked in that direction and the dog followed. This time he only ran out halfway into the field and stopped. So we left him and went home. We almost made it too, then the little dog same running up behind us. Hmmm.

A small dog has followed us home and is now eating sausage in our kitchen.

No idea who it belongs to, but this is the third time this collarless dog has turned up in the past couple of months.

Walked down to the Mairie and it's all sorted now apparently. Even phoned back after we'd gone to say we'll get the bank charges back.

I was a nice day for a walk and I'm not as annoyed by this whole thing as I normally would be.

@anna We would love to, but are unsure if adopting a dog with a history of wandering off and chasing cars is a good idea.

This has not stopped us considering it.

Just a single solitary bark and then he waited patiently until we opened the door.

We were about to have a late lunch.

On previous visits he's eaten a bit of garlic sausage.

Today we were eating leftover garlic soup and pizza from last night's dinner.

We diluted a bit of garlic soup with some cold water and he drank that greedily. Dogs aren't really meant to eat white bread, but not having any dogfood on hand we gave him a small crust of pizza and some extra toppings.

As he has no collar and we have no idea what his name is, we've started calling him Alonso, as in "allons-y Alonso".

Doctor Who fans will understand 😉

He always flinches the first time I try to pat him. Not sure if he's been hit, or fears I'm going to grab him and take him to the vet.

After he realises I just want to pat him, he's fine and quite likes the attention. At least until he finds something more interesting and wanders off.

Firstly, we're pretty sure he has an owner, as he's been taken to the vet at least twice and yet has reappeared. Dogs don't usually escape from the pound.

Secondly, the dog isn't really interested in us. We love dogs, but this one just is not quite present. Always looking at the horizon and following his nose to the next adventure. We made a bet that day we'd see him again.

And here he is. I am going to have to buy more sausage for my pizza as he has scoffed the lot.

Our little visitor is back again today.

Last week a rather glamorous French lady knocked at the door. I thought for a moment I was on a 60's movie set. The only giveaway was her modern car, in the back of which was a familiar little white dog. This time wearing a snazzy little coat.

I explained he wasn't ours but that he turns up quite often. She said he must be abandoned, and asked if we'd like to keep him. My wife and I discussed it, but, rather reluctantly declined...

He jumped into my lap yesterday to see what I was doing at the computer. I tried to explain about multicast but he seemed more interested in multisausage.

The little dog is quite smart. 🐕

He found our house, knew it was the right one, stood outside and barked to get our attention.

Definitely smarter than quite a lot of the delivery drivers we've had. 🚚

Thinking of adding "Either knock, or bark like a dog" to the delivery instructions in future.

We went out to chop wood. Dog followed. Independent fellow. Likes to be near us, but always has his eye on the horizon. Nosed around the sheds, and eventually went off in the direction of the forest.

We packed up and went inside. I guess he'll be back if he wants something.

We're not doing anything interesting, both occupied with these clacky keyboard things and have not produced any sausages.

Dog has curled up on the mat now and shows no signs of wanting to leave.

Will accept pats, but very wary and a bit jumpy.
