    straight people can enjoy that (its very sick after all )

    now , if the skater goes “im very gay and i learned to skate bc i dodnt have any friends bc i was gay “

    now . in this situation

    gay people saying “this is a cool piece of Gay Culture “ doesnt exclude straight ppl from participating and enjoying

    on the other hand , straight ppl going “who cares this isnt gay , gayness has nothing to do with this its just a cool trick” is excluding queerness from this discussion , taking away a good example of public gay exposure from queer people , thus erasing both visibility and achievements , and “appropriating” it ina way

    nkt that thjs doesnt change if the skater didnt say he was gay , if in this weird world skating was seen as a queercoded activity

      @fiore @hijabicatgirl No, I'm saying it *isn't* a numbers game. Regardless of how many people of X group like something and feels it resonates with them, does not make it X-coded.

      It affects because it invalidates potential interpretations of media by asserting the correct way of disambiguating subtext.

      The math autism way I interpret it: stories are axiom schemes, interpretations are models. If it doesn't violate the axioms laid out, it is a valid interpretation.

      @fiore @hijabicatgirl If something can be X-coded because it resonates with X people, then necessarily anything can be X regardless of themes actually present because it's defined by what people bring with them. In that sense, many things can be gay, or queercoded.

      I disagree with that definition. If it resonates predominantly with queer people, but it isn't unambiguously about gender, then I disagree that it's a queer game. It isn't invalid for it to be interpreted that way, but there exist more interpretations beyond that. Many Disney villains can be interpreted as gay or queer because of their flamboyance, but that isn't necessary.

      I can't comment on Celeste, I played a bit of it but got bored.

      I'd need to check the lore again, I'm unsure if in turning bugs away from the Radiance, they were granted free will. If so, I'd say Radiance was unambiguously bad

      @Merc @hijabicatgirl the pale king literally fuarrrks everyone over bc of his colonial masterplan . hallownest was in harmony , he had to colonize it (pale king btw) . its a VERY anti tyrannical and strongly anarchic theme that drives the story , as is made evident by the variety present in hallownest and the death left behind by colonialism and patriarchy . this is the theme that resonates with queer people , the criticism of the nuclear family embodied by the pale king &co , that ultimately falls apart because its based on a nothing , on emptiness , on Void

He made the bugs smarter and sealed away the Radiance, but he cared about the Hollow Knight too much which made him weak and caused the Radiance to seep out and start infecting bugs again. The issue with the Pale King is the methods through which he tried sealing the Radiance away. Terrible he had all those failed vessels made.

      part of why I don't like participating in fandoms is how much people project their personal interpretations onto broad subtext and treat their headcanon as canonical. The plot is dealing with the fallout of the White King's decisions, and there are a lot of ways you can interpret it. I wouldn't say it's anti-patriarchal, myself, things get fucked up because of his attachment. One could say the reason the Hollow Knight failed as a plan was because the king wasn't more tyrannical.
