     @wjmaggos @dbsalk I grew up in VA with Washington as my home team. I despised them because my Dad did. My Dad was a Butkus, Gale Sayers fan and I became a Bears fan back then, with no idea I'd end up living in Chicago, and have remained a fan ever since. I'm thinking the brainwashing comes as much from family as it does geography. Watching my grandson deal with a dad who is a Giants fan, a mom who is diehard a diehard Patriots fan, and.../1

     we basically get brainwashed into becoming fans of our local teams, then the owners threaten us with moving for tax breaks and subsidies. the Bears are the one team I really care about cause I was 7yo in 1985.

     if there was some kind of public ownership, it could be a pretty healthy relationship. they do better, the local government makes money.

     @wjmaggos @dbsalk his dad refuses to let the kid's nanny buy him a Lions jersey. Funny that his parents' and granddad's teams all stink up the joint and his nanny's team is probably going to the Super Bowl

     @WarnerCrocker @wjmaggos That computes. Back in the 90s, I worked in Wisconsin and had a coworker from Spain who worked one summer on an exchange program. Despite knowing zilch about American football and not much English, in the space of about 5 months he became a die-hard Packer fan just from being around native Cheeseheads. Went back to Spain with authentic Brett Favre and Reggie White jerseys. A sociologist could write a case study about it.

     As a Bear fan, I could just shake my head. 🙄 🏈
