Happy camera repair day to all who celebrate.
Finally gathered enough focus and courage to crack open the Minolta Hi-Matic 7sII that had a stuck film advancer. Clearly it suffered some trauma in the past and the little bar popped above instead of holding the shutter cocked. Now it works, yay!! Well kind of... 🧵

So there is also this "random" screw that was stuck in the advance lever gear. That was an unrelated reason for why the advance lever was stuck. That was a red herring for a bit.
But, more puzzlingly I have no idea where this screw belongs. I cannot see where it should go. And everything is working. Well, kind of... 🧵

So the thing that doesn't work reliably is blocking the film advance lever before the shutter has been activated. The problem would be advancing frames without exposing them first.
There's a VERY tiny wire that should keep tension on the feelers (is that the right term) but I don't think I can access it properly without taking the body apart completely. This might be a good place to pause the repair thread and put the camera back together. /🧵
