   The official Obsidian Web Clipper is *almost* exactly what I need, but is a narrow miss. 😕 https://obsidian.md/clipper

   Up until now I've used Markdownload and then copied the resulting files into Obsidian, which is more clunky than the new clipper, but it has one important feature: it downloads images. I clip articles not only to help me find them again, but also to protect against web rot, but the official clipper links to web versions of the images. I don't trust those not to randomly go away.

     Unfortunately Obsidian doesn't seem to have a way to convert those to local images, automatically on clipping or even very easily manually afterwards. So for that reason I'll be sticking to Markdownload until they add that as an option.

     @sinbad Up to now I've been using an Obsidian plugin for that (Local Images, or Local Images Plus for example).

     But if I'm not mistaken I think I've read in one of @kepano 's toots about the clipper that it was in the plans for future versions?

     Looking at the roadmap it appears it's on the list to do, although slightly worryingly marked "requires changes to the Obsidian app" https://github.com/obsidianmd/obsidian-clipper?tab=readme-ov-file#roadmap 🤔

     @sinbad I haven't found a clipper either that I like (at least one as good as Evernote's) so my solution is copy & paste together with the "Local Images Plus" plugin. Which works surprisingly well though

     Thanks for the suggestions to use Local Images Plus (https://github.com/Sergei-Korneev/obsidian-local-images-plus) which will process all new posts and pastes automatically to make local versions of all images. Solves my problem ahead of Obsidian doing it themselves 👍

     @sinbad that just means this feature will require changes to the Obsidian URI protocol, similar to the other new parameters we added recently to support Web Clipper

     @kepano Wait, it's just you? Wow, you're doing some incredible work there, thanks for everything. Now that someone pointed out a workaround via Local Images Plus I'm back on the clipper again, which works great apart from that wrinkle.

     @sinbad if I'm understanding correctly, you just want to download web pages to refer to later, even if they drop offline?

     wget -pk https://something.com

     👍

     -p downloads the resources as well as the raw page, so that it renders fully. -k rewrites the page to link to the downloaded assets instead of the originals.

     (works on Windows too, just needs installing first)

     @dev_ric not exactly, I want them stripped of all the cruft and converted to markdown. Markdownload works well for that as a general tool but now Obsidian has a clipper which does the same, barring the images but I’ve solved that with a plugin. Thanks anyway!
