@sun@d3n it's true enough - people are flocking to where the people *they* follow went after giving up on birdsite, just like 2016 -- only difference is that bluesky exists now
@jeffcliff@sun@d3n I don't think X is going after left wing accounts. It's more like lefties could basically get away with anything before and now they can't. Lefties are complaining to BSky staff about bans too bc they can't go a full week without threatening people.
I do have to admit though, the right wing shift from Twitter to X is very annoying. It's basically 4chan except every account is a bot. Even the accounts that aren't literal bots are just exploiting Elon's monetization, they create controversial threads by saying things no one actually believes to the tune of tens of thousands of accounts, so they might as well be bots.
This engagement baiting is pretty much the only thing the algo promotes too, bc it's just an ad scam.
X is a horrible site to use. It's still better than most alternatives based on it but only bc it has old built in people. It's stagnate and once the old guard is gone, it's going to be dead the same way Facebook is.
@k@d3n@sun so what? The point is that twitter is a censorship machine that has a history of targeting *both* left *and* right when it suits it. It was true in 2016 it was true in 2019 when I got cut, and it's true today. Twitter *has* changed the incentives to encourage the kind of hostility we see there of course, and the left has been mostly left out of that particular grift scheme.
> Lefties are complaining to BSky staff about bans too bc they can't go a full week without threatening people.
Because *threats are a part of how political differences are sorted out* when other forms of resolving difference of opinion break down. You aren't going to get rid of threats any more than you're going to be able to get rid of hatred (especially when palestinians *and* israelis still coexist) or people not being OK with other people trying to have sex with them. It's part of how people protect themselves from eachother.
And the fact that the platform tries to play god and decide who gets to threaten who and when *is* the problem
@k@d3n@sun No, I've seen your point made by plenty before you. There was a double standard pre-musk that has been reversed but it was *always* used as an excuse to ignore whichever side of the unorthodox was getting the banhammer, going back to at least when saudi arabia invested big in twitter.
@k@d3n@sun And I'm also old enough to remember that when trump won in '16 a whole bunch of democrat-leaning accounts started getting the ban hammer due to these kinds of issues. We're repeating history and the arguments are the same
you can get threats pointed in your direction on the left *and twitter will let it happen*. Doctors feeds are full of antivaxxer nutcases threatening to kill them.
but if you are on the right and get threatened, you can successfully report it and get their account temp if not permanently banned.
not always but enough that it's obvious what's going on
@jeffcliff@d3n@sun I agree with what you're saying now but I only made that point bc you framed it as if lefties are just getting cyber bullied into making threats responsively and that's the reason they leave.
I'm saying they just do that everywhere. That's not the main issue, but I agree that X is a bad site.
@jeffcliff@d3n@sun I think the issue is probably more that each decision is left up to a pajeet who can barely speak Hindi, let alone English. X moderation is inconsistent but I don't think it's politically biased in that way, it's just poorly run.
@k@d3n@sun there's certainly inconsistencies but the idea that it's not biased is ridiculous. Musk has a clear agenda in buying and running the site, and it has pivoted in that direction.
@jeffcliff@d3n@sun I just think the Conservative bias is mostly expressed in the algo and community notes, not bans, bc as you said, Conservatives get banned all the time. I got banned more for being too Conservative on X than I ever did on Twitter even when I didn't violate any rules just bc the moderation has gotten so much worse.
It makes the most sense when you look at X as an ad business, not a social media company.
>It makes the most sense when you look at X as an ad business, not a social media company.
Except it's not an ad business, it's a *propaganda* machine. As an ad business it's a collossal failure. As a *propaganda* machine for elon musk and trump it has been a wild success and that's why it continues to exist.
They took his son? He's clearly got more children than he can or chooses to take care of and it shows. The only thing wrong with his daughter is her father.
@k@d3n@sun Who cares? Trump just got elected to a large degree because of his censorship / propaganda machine. Which means that getting covid under control in this continent is going to be a non-starter for the forseable future.
Musk was *always* the kind of VC scumbag who would force proprietary software into other people's lives. The only redeeming factors he has is that he's willing to push humanity into space and he was, until people started insulting him, willing to value free expression on principle.
@jeffcliff@d3n@sun You are the most ADHD motherfucker on the Internet. Who cares? That's why he hates trannies and why Elon supports Conservatives now. He was a Reddit libtard until then.
> Or the fact that Dems pulled a coup on their own nominee so they could run another Hillary tier unlikable candidate?
kamala harris was nowhere near hillary tier
> and global militaristic failure,
are you russian or something?
> the horrific economy
This is ridiculous. The 'horrific' economy with job growth, wage growth, low inflation, record low unemployment?? The US economy isn't perfect by any stretch but it's not 'horrific' either. "horrific" is slapping 25% tarriffs on their #1 #2 & #3 trading partners
@jeffcliff@d3n@sun You really think it's X, and not the horrific economy and global militaristic failure, that got Trump re-elected? Or the fact that Dems pulled a coup on their own nominee so they could run another Hillary tier unlikable candidate?
@jeffcliff@d3n@sun I'm asking you to use your head for a minute and realize that it's a legitimately schizophrenic assertion that we're on track to have 100% American home ownership by 2031.
@jeffcliff@d3n@sun Ok, I'm just going to tell you as someone who actually lives here, and not some weird poll collector.
Housing is only affordable if you take out a retarded loan. It's not easy to sell a property in recent years. Inflation has not "dropped to nominal." I'm making significantly more money than I did 3 years ago and I still have to live on a diet of beans, ramen, sandwiches, and soup in order to enjoy vacations.
I am doing significantly better financially than most people my age, except ones with good degrees.
The economy is not good, no matter what abstract numbers you want to throw out about a country you don't even live in. A big reason people are turning back to Conservatism is because Lefties insist the economy is great when our day to day lives are proof that it isn't.
@k@d3n@sun > The economy is not good, no matter what abstract numbers you want to throw out
in other words: you know that the data actually doesn't support you.
We *have* economic data to measure how well the economy does writ large. There were people strugglebussing in the US 10 years ago, and there were people strugglebussing in the US 20 years ago, and 30 years ago. You just happen to be one of them.
@k@jeffcliff@d3n@sun Facebook is far from dead. Maybe your social circle migrated to Tumblr, but it remains indispensable for many normies. Lots of businesses use Facebook instead of a website, lots of interest groups settled on Facebook when Google groups and Yahoo groups shut down. Facebook has a lot of information that cannot be found elsewhere.
