Lol, it is funny to me when folks pretend *checks notes* George Monbiot is some kinda radical communist revolutionary.

Newsflash, I share Monbiot with you weird libs because he IS you, if you did the research about capitalism and climate crisis. He's far too chicken to call for the revolution we clearly need, and he spent a solid decade of his life looking for the happy medium/regulated capitalism you crave.

Guess what? He did not find it and eventually had to accept capitalism is killing us.

We're talking about a respectable Guardian columnist here; a bougie liberal who literally *WANTED* to believe everything you whine about in my mentions is true and folks like me are just bonkers pinko shitposters.

But he actually did the research, and he literally could not find a way to square that circle.

To this day he still refuses to draw the obvious conclusions his own work points to. He'll explain that it's capitalism, that rich ppl own everything, that our governments are collaborators with fossil fuel corporations, that they're dismantling our civil rights to protect fossil fuels/capitalism, that they're hardening boarders and arming security forces - and then sigh wistfully while refusing to say "and we should topple these ppl before they kill us."

He IS you without the self-deception.

I absolutely know you folks aren't listening to ME, because you've made up a whole bunch of excuses for why I'm wrong and the reality unfolding in front of you is some kinda huge accident that can be solved by incrementalism because your leaders aren't really fascist murderbots who'll happily slaughter billions for the capitalists that own them.

But George? Is no revolutionary. And he's telling you the same thing I am in your own language.

Naw, don't assume I'm being too hard on Monbiot. I don't hate him, and I understand what he's doing because to some degree I do the same thing. We live in a fascist police state where reactionary violence is ignored but exercising your civil rights from the left is literally terrorism. So Monbiot is laying out the facts and hoping you'll draw the obvious conclusions from them. I do the same thing, I'm just getting way more impatient than he is and I don't have a Guardian column to lose.

I'd probably be a lot less furious with liberals if they were all more like George. Don't get me wrong, we still disagree about a lotta things, but there's enough common ground and basic agreement about what reality is there that cooperation is possible.

I honestly can't say the same thing about comfy libs appeasing fascists and pretending their leaders are far left of where they actually are. A lot of you are exactly who Assata Shakur said you were. But George at least acknowledges reality.

@AnarchoNinaWrites Funnily enough I'm rereading No Is Not Enough by Klein, and have Monbiot's Age of Consent: A Manifesto for a New World Order lined up as my next reread. It was less that four feet away from me when I saw your thread!

The book is a penetrating *diagnosis* of the many, overlapping and interlocking systemic problems now threatening us - US hegemony being a central focus.

It's hard to believe he hasn't privately reached the hard conclusion his own work spotlights and underlines.

@ApostateEnglishman I am sure he has. I don't think he could write as coherently and earnestly as he does, if he hadn't reached the same conclusions most of us on the "far" left have.

He's just not saying it because he's watching the state crush protestors for blocking traffic and he knows The Guardian will snatch his platform the moment he types "and the obvious conclusion then is revolution."

@AnarchoNinaWrites It's funny because that is similar to my own transition from left liberal to radical left anarchist. When the economy collapsed in 2008, a lot of my friends were asking me what caused it. I replied with some NYT opinion columnist pablum until I realized I simply didn't know. So I learned everything I could about what actually happened and my conclusion was that it was one of the greatest crimes ever committed and that those responsible not only didn't suffer consequences, but were richly rewarded.

Capitalism is the only real conspiracy.

@pjsliney @PaulDitz Seattle for me. Before then, I was sure our ruling class just didn't know and policing was a question of "a few bad apples."

It's amazing how fast almost being ridden down by a police horse for legally protected protest will clarify what this system is, why, and who it works for.

Mind you, it's not like I understood the whole scope of the picture even then; Iraq, the financial crisis, and even police repression of anti-fascist protest taught me more; but Seattle started it.

@PaulDitz @AnarchoNinaWrites same, but after 9/11, when “the market” crashed and I was given that excuse for everything bad that happened.
I learned that it’s a giant Ponzi scheme.

@calbearo Monbiot leaves that part unstated for reasons I've covered; but I legitimately don't think there's a way out that isn't "revolution" and have written so many times out here. Our leaders and the capitalist class are actively curtailing civil rights, building out police states, and criminalizing opposition to the capitalism that kills us. They INTEND to kill billions to keep capitalism and kill anyone who tries to stop them. I don't us having realistic choices besides revolution.

@AnarchoNinaWrites very interesting article. In addition to (understandably) not pinning down a definitive successor to capitalism, is the means of transformation. Capitalism is enmeshed in our political structures and I don’t see it going down without a fight, so is there some way to transform economies/political systems or is violent revolution a requirement. Historically we’ve mostly seen violent revolutions when making big political/economic changes.

@calbearo Now, whether that revolution will be violent, or how violent it gets, isn't in my opinion up for us to decide. The machine is going to employ force to protect the capitalist order and lock in coming genocides. How much force? Well I'm sure they INTEND to use maximum force; I can't predict whether or not their hired goons will go for it or not however.

Maybe if enough of the 8B ppl capitalism is threatening band together, the system will surrender peacefully. But I ain't counting on it

Body cam footage: Neo-Nazis who marched in Short North claimed to be victims of violence
        from Bailey Gallion
The neo-Nazis told police they had never received such a violent response as the one they received in Columbus, and claimed people threw cans and veggies.
