@elementary OS 8 is now out!
It's a sizeable update that brings a #Wayland session, tons of accessibility changes, #Flathub by default, revamped system settings, a change in how updates are handled, and a lot more.

I found it has caught up to its counterparts, and now that the heavy work (Wayland & GTK4) is mostly done, I have high hopes!

@thelinuxEXP @elementary Nick, have you heard about any problems with AMD users? I tried to install the RC on two of my AMD laptops (one of them Framework 13) and sadly had zero luck.

@thelinuxEXP @elementary thanks dude. I’ll dig into it some more. Just based on the live user session for OS 8 I really really want to check it out!

@killyourfm @elementary I haven’t heard about that, but I only tried it on an Intel laptop!

@killyourfm @thelinuxEXP @elementary tell me more what prevented the install. If this is a WD SN770/SN770M SSD on the device, you need to edit the kernel boot arg to have: nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=0 otherwise the OS won’t find the SSD to install nor boot from it (I’ve tested Fedora and PopOS!). A dive into why this is needed and it’s a buggy firmware that WD is using, and needs to be added as a quirk fix. There are plenty of different SSDs that have been patched but it affects quite a few.

@denzilferreira @thelinuxEXP @elementary Thanks very much for jumping in to help troubleshoot! I'm using a WD SN850X (in the Framework), and the OS 8 installer successfully partitioned it and seemingly installed, but boots into a black screen. The live environment worked fine, and it's all AMD hardware.

On the ASUS ROG Strix, I'm using a 500GB Intel SSD. That one throws an error the second it starts installing.

Just saw an email from the team saying a few Discord users had problems with AMD.

@denzilferreira @thelinuxEXP @elementary So, @danirabbit just put this on my radar, and it definitely seems a good fit for the problem I experienced on the Framework 13: https://www.phoronix.com/news/AMDGPU-Driver-Plymouth-Woes

AMD GPU Linux Driver Becoming "Really Really Big" That It's Starting To Cause Problems
        from @michaellarabel
The modern AMD kernel graphics driver 'AMDGPU' is the biggest driver within the mainline Linux kernel and is approaching six million lines of code albeit a large chunk of that is made up of auto-generated header files for each supported GPU
