Older generations gaslit themselves into thinking that they worked so hard to provide well for their children. Nah fam, you did it for *your* social standing. The instant a young person rejects what you thought as essential for the "good" life (buying a house, having children, getting married etc.) , you have a melt and start guilt tripping immediately. You can't fathom someone having an enjoyable life without paying in misery coins to conform first.

Sunanda (theorem_poem@mstdn.social)'s status on Wednesday, 13-Nov-2024 17:32:47 JST Sunanda @samebchase there is this weird glorification of denying yourself joy. Someone has to tell them that it hasn't made them a better person, it has made them resentful towards young people. And that they frankly bought too many children into the world just to fit into societal norms. They're not ready to confront the truth that they would be exponentially better off with one or zero children.
