   @dansup @h (assuming there really is a violation here) you made the explicit choice to grant access to EU citizens and not follow EU laws, though. You shouldn't be surprised about this.

     @h @dansup I needed to have my account deleted recently and it required email and they told me it would be 2 weeks before it could be confirmed. They acknowledged the delete would be GDPR compliant as they have to scrub your account from any backups too.
     
     This is a really hard problem for something like the fediverse. You can't go back into old database dumps and delete users from it... you just can't edit those files like that.
     
     You're essentially forced to have a separate backup of data for each user so you can target them. But this greatly complicates your backup infrastructure as well as your application logic.
     
     I hate it so much, it forces you to be extremely wasteful

     @feld @dansup theres not an ability to delete an account automatically that i can find but im sure dansup would do it if asked via email- not sure what the requirements are or if this is good enough legally

     @feld @dansup in the case of loops, the site isn’t federated Yet but the point still applies i think
     from what i can find, data deletion requests may take up to a month (but “without undue delay”), so it Sounds like this is all good? but don’t take my word for it, of course

     @h @dansup it's probably fine, but you do need a procedure in place so you don't have to suffer being harassed by the EU internet police

     @feld @dansup yeah. it’s only been some days since it’s been out publicly and even now it’s a beta as far as i understand it, so it’s frustrating he needs to have all of that in order already but it is what it is :/
