@wakehamAMR Personally.
1. Funding
(Are they heavily reliant on donations to the point there might come a day they'll run dry? Do they allow it but not ask since they have eniugh funding? Do they refuse it because they don't really need it?)
2. The community
(What's their local timeline like? Is it general or too specific? I don't want to suddenly look a spammer or troll.)
3. If they have specific themes
(I don't want to suddenly start filling their local timeline with topics they're not interested.)
4. Rules
(I've seen some rules that are too extreme for me, but works for their community.)
5. How many they defederated?
(I mean, if they defederated half and/or the major instances, what's the use _for me_.)
6. How long have they've been around?
(This one is easier today. But back in the early days, between 2008 and 2018, you have to take the risk.)
7. It should be my personal choice, not because everyone is flocking to it.
(You know what they say, not because something is "majority"/"famous" does it mean it is the best.)
