@besserwisser it will have a ripple effect and certainly increase VW's costs when working with other local companies etc. They need to cut their internal costs as much as possible now. I just think this is one of those "we celebrated too early" situations as the full effects were not yet known. It needs another year to bear out I think
@feld A 22% minimum wage increase in an economy which is mostly doing fine is different from a 10% wage cut in a struggling company where few people earn as low as minimum wage. Admittedly, I haven't looked into it enough to really know how much of a difference it would make and what other alternatives there are. Usually it's safe to assume corporations just want to depress wages as much as possible and now they're having problems to blame it on.
@feld It's partly state owned, for one. On this specific issue, I never experienced management taking pay cuts or just not give themselves a giant raise after making demonstrably bad management decisions. I only ever seen this in Japan. Probably also happens in other places I haven't seen.
