   I just remembered that Eric Raymond exists.
   
   You know what his existence makes me wonder, right?
   
   Why don't cancel culture mob people like Drew Devault not go after people like Eric Raymond? He has said things that are way worse than the morally questionable things that Stallman has ever said.
   
   Eric Raymond is an actual homophobic rightoid who thinks the gays deserve aids, and actively pushes against women working tech.

     @SuperDicq Eric is more or less irrelevant and so microsoft and other proprietary software companies don't instruct their employees or pay people to do a "cancel" job.

     @mima@makai.chaotic.ninja ESR is short for Eric S. Raymond similar to RMS for Richard M. Stallman.
     
     Afaik the OSI has only banned him from the public mailing list. Nothing else to address the situation. I'm pretty sure they still often post about essays and things that ESR has written without ever addressing his actual harmful political opinions.

     The things ESR says about violence, gay people and women are actually harmful, unlike whatever Stallman has said.

     They actually did EsR got removed from the OSI board (which he co-founded) after a slight disagreement around 3 years ago.
     
     Eve tho one can disagree with his opinions I don't think he deserves that treatment either.

     @SuperDicq Nobody deserve that. Passive violence will always be what it is. And emotional responsibility from RMS's, EsR's and their readers are also to be considered. It is not the stimulus that determines our emotional reactions.

     @SuperDicq What was that guy even known for other than writing some book? I always thought his presence was important because him being openly right-wing debunks the whole "FOSS is just digital communism" comment.
