  As for men. self respect is a big part of it. But the biggest part is belief, the belief that it has anything to offer, does something for you, or alleviates any stress. As soon as one stops believing that it has anything to offer, that power evaporates. It's pretty surprising how effective belief is.

But like @gentoobro said, a lot of it can stem from isolation, the lack of a loving wife, or loneliness in another word. The male loneliness epidemic is pretty widely accepted now. So Bot's approach of "imagine if that was your daughter" just increases feelings of guilt, alienation, which increases feelings of loneliness, which ends up driving men further into their addiction.

  The real issue is that men now have little opportunity to have a loving, attractive wife and with her, a family. So they turn to porn to fill the hole in their heart. Porn, in its modern form, has been around for many decades but only "became a problem" after both the economy and dating market was utterly destroyed for the Zoomers and many Millennials. And I would prefer it if my sons didn't watch porn and my daughters (though I have only sons) never got involved in porn. That's the shit I did when I was a curious and horny teenager tbh.
  
  Either way men are just weak when it comes to using their brains properly regarding manners related to sex. It's why there's incels and angry lonely men blaming women and society rather than taking responsibility for their own short comings.   I'm planning on observing #nofap #nonutNovember, which is different than abstaining from porn BTW; maybe I'll level-up later.
  
  I'm also planning on totally abstaining from coffee and caffeine after 11:00 AM, rather than randomly throughout the day whenever I want a mental boot up the ass. Again for the entirety of November; I'll reconsider my caffeine intake after I satisfy that simple goal.
  
  I'm planning on showering once each day for a 60-day streak, also. As a WFH coder it's just too easy to miss 2 days, 3 days and then forget and lose track of how many days. I need to set a goal for consistency and continue it into the new year.
