So, I have an HP 2200D laser printer that’s nearly a quarter of a century old. ☠️
In the process of cleaning it and getting new toner it now has a fade on the left. This happens across all 3 toner carts.
Maybe I made it upset? Any ideas?

@mac84tv That kind of scaley effect looks like it might be charge unit related.
When the drum spins, the laser changes the charge on the drum - but it also needs resetting, so at a point there's a charge roller, or corona wire, or some kind of pad that resets the charge on the drum. When it goes wacky - too high or too low, it screws with EVERYTHING.
Scaling like that on one of our production presses is indicative of too high. Might just need a clean - if it's accessible.
@mac84tv could be a bunch of other things too, but that's my first thought!
@NanoRaptor thank you!!! It wasn’t doing this a few weeks ago with the old toner... so I’ll try taking a look at the service manual and seeing what I can clean off. 👍
@NanoRaptor at least I guess the good thing is I can dismantle this thing in my sleep by now 😂
@mac84tv Here's some cool scaling on the magenta drum only!
It can also be caused further from the charge device itself (I imagine on smaller printers that's all contained in the toner+drum unit) by grounding issues. Filthy contacts on whatever electrical path leads to the drum area too.
@mac84tv And what that image *should* look like :)
@mac84tv Now there's an idea for a video :D
@mac84tv @NanoRaptor dismantle it with a hammer
@thisdoesnotcomp @NanoRaptor only if the problem gets worse 😂
