@lumi@snug.moe For some they seem to heavily focus on E2E like that is some sort of endgoal.
Personally I see E2E encryption as a bandaid fix for platforms you don't trust.
Consider you're talking to a friend through a server that you trust, you no longer need E2E encryption. Regular server-client encryption is good enough at that point.

but there is a much bigger and more fundamental issue, which is one of autonomy: are you actually in control of the software and services you use?
on a proprietary and/or centralized service, the answer is no, and you can't count on it being private or secure anymore. the power dynamics involved make it not possible to count on it翠星石 likes this.
