      @sun I have enjoyed a few things he's written here and there but not the novel I tried to read. It's been too long and I found the characters to be the worst kind of plot devices, but maybe I just picked the wrong one. Doing PCP for the hell of it at a party when your girlfriend is calling you a retard for doing it was enough to go read something else and not come back. MC is a retard and author is making a ham-fisted point.

      @sun @MMS21 I agree with that but at the same time: the mask *is how to protect yourself and eachother in that situation*

      if literally everyone in that room wore high quality masks consistently, it could be reasonable to *have* rooms like that with *some* people in them

      and high profile people like @pluralistic can do a lot of good by changing people's behaviour to wear high quality masks consistently. Though obv. travelling and appearing at such conferences definitely isn't as they say 'a good look' even at his scale

      @anemone honestly too I don't think anything will convince me that masks work because for decades they said masks were for not making others sick. there are other studies that show people with correct masks rarely wear them correctly anyway

      @sun @anemone literally, this has been repeated to people since the initial period of panic subsided, you can't protect yourself by wearing a mask even if you wear it backwards, it's for protecting others. if you're visiting your grandma or something, wear a mask to protect her, giving her a mask won't do shit

      @eemmaa @anemone fauci lied about masks protecting you at all when he was trying to protect the supply of n95 masks, then did a complete 180 so it's definitely deliberate.

      to be perfectly clear I believe that if you are or might be sick you should wear a mouth covering, and if you're going to be in a crowd then it makes sense to wear a good mask. but if you believed everything that you were told in 2020 then you shouldn't be gathering voluntarily in large groups where hundreds of people get sick every year from other diseases.

      @sun @anemone the 'studies say this studies say that' problem with masks was a real problem...until earlier this year when we had both the cochrane review corrected for their math mistakes (showing conclusively masks work) and the state-of-the-science review

Polio is running wild in gaza right now and the lack of vaccinated people provide an entry point to its re-emergence in north america.       So they don't put mercury, aluminum and other harmful shit in vaccines so your body has a immune response to it?

      Pretty sure they still do. Other harmful, abrasive chemicals are used in the manufacturing process and remain in the final dose but they cope and say it's too low amount to do harm. That's bs.

      Do they use adjuvants in current vaccines? Sure. Do some people have reactions to adjuvants? Sure. on the order of 1-in-10,000,000 per dose in canada and something similar in the US. meanwhile 1 in *2* people get permanent organ damage from covid, around 1 in *6* get long covid per infection.

      The "Covid is not over" crew seem more interested in ritualistically defending their choices in 2020/21 as something that should be done always.
