it really is pretty wild how much OBS actually does for you. as soon as you step outside OBS its all like :blobcatastonished: well'p fuck you hope you enjoy gstreamer pipelines and duct tape
@sun gstreamer seems to mostly be used to shuttle the video around. you still need a host to do DVE (digital video effects) or compositing. snowmix used to do this but the guy who maintained that seems to have died before finishing the last version.
most of the stuff i've encountered is playout automation, or stuff that can mix but is on the edge of its capacity doing that (like CasparCG, which can do side-by-side but animating stuff involves writing control software to spam commands over OSC)
@ned its cool that we have open source character graphics too. but not cool that they're all browser shit. you can see them break down sometimes because the chrome stack is bad at its job and struggles to do basic keyframe and fill shit that every half baked game engine champions through
@icedquinn graphics is a bit of a mystery to me. I never actually do anything with the business end of that. The ATEM mini stuff is very reasonably priced. But you have to go to the constellation range to get real M/E channels. And that's still expensive. BMD have cheap switchers because if you want the full featured experience you end up buying a buttload of hardware.
