@bonifartius one reason they hate RMS so much is that he's not a passive libertarian type, he's actively and aggressively anti-corporate, to a fault, which is why they've never really been able to get a strong foothold at the FSF.
most people just want to keep their head down and sling code, which is how you get your shit taken over (godot, nix, python)
@sun@bonifartius i read them as a declaration of war but i also tend to be sharply reactionary before everyone else makes up their minds :neocat_up_paws:
@icedquinn@bonifartius I don't think it's possible to resist anymore, just have to go off and do your own thing and be isolated from normal people that are too retarded to see creeping changes
@bonifartius@sun like i wouldn't mind finagling a little rebol interpreter to build OS packages. nix seems to be pretty popular, if a bit crippled by its unnecessarily complex language, and them enacting the stalin purges would have been a great selection window to catch escaping users from.
its probably a bit late now, and i'm not in a state where i could really work on that kind of shit unpaid rn
@lucy@bonifartius@sun the DEI board did a power grab to be able to fire people without having to have a council vote. one of the long-standing core devs kept asking why they needed this power, so they had him banned for overbearing the conversation or some shit
@sun@icedquinn@bonifartius@lucy Classic "use verbose but vague language that sounds plausible and don't give people time to think about what it actually means"
@icedquinn@bonifartius@sun I mean we can just fork it away from their inferior code, their takeovers have no long-term success anyway. We gotta be like that snake with 7 heads that Hercules killed or some shit, they aint Hercules.
that particular disease tends to come to steal the clout, though. there's more to running python than just having a codebase. its the branding, installer, institutional support and recognition, etc, the play is always to skinsuit the institution so they can loot its legitimacy for their insane shit until people finally realize its poisoned and someone else has to go through all the pain of building a reputation again.
@birdulon@bonifartius@asa@sun Mozilla was kind of the same way. Eich never used his position in the company to push his trad votes. It only became a problem when Mozilla was targeted for colonization
@asa@icedquinn@bonifartius@sun Arguably the top godot guys were always this way albeit less vocal, and the "Community" "Manager" is just a convenient scapegoat. That said, it's very easy to not care about when they aren't being vocal about it.
@birdulon@asa@bonifartius@sun I like to remind the very silly people that under the "bigot" bejng CTO they controlled 40% of the market and the company had a high degree of organic diversity.
Under the progressive lbgt ally woman, they control below ten percent and have fired the majority of the company (CEO full bonus!)
