My fist act as dictator would be to confiscate all leafblowers and have them crushed, just so the people who love them could experience a small taste of the suffering they cause everyone else.
@gentoobro@vic@sun I once lived across the fence from a strip mall and their maintenance people would show up at like 10:00pm and spend 40 minutes blowing dirt around the parking lot.
@gentoobro@sun I am also on board with leaf blower hatred. It's not that they're inherently bad, it's that the people using them always run them 5x longer than they need to, completely oblivious to how obnoxious the noise is.
@sun There's a good chance that the guy's yard was just one of several places the guy takes care of. I imagine guys with billion trillion mansions might be a bit more discerning about who they hire so getting to work for them might be a good deal even with the occasional verbal abuse.
Most areas have something that requires gardening, and having decent social skills and doing advertising can quickly fill the schedule if everything's not already contracted to some corpo. That was the case for my dad at least, and the only advantage he had starting out was knowing someone who agreed to make a pretty nifty logo for his business.
