> Dude sold books.
Sure but fuck him, his books suck. Jurassic Park Guy being stuck in a Stephen King novel was one of Carpenter's most hilarious movies, and I would rather rewatch In the Mouth of Madness than read Stephen King. I didn't read the werewolf book. I would punch Stephen King in the dick but he'd probably characterize this as "kooky" and make a novel about it.- Sick Sun likes this.

I heard "Carpenter decided to poke some fun at his friend and Stephen King decided it sounded funny and joined in" and I immediately downloaded a car. I liked it.
> It's totally valid that it lived on as a meta spoof with stupid monsters.
Well, I don't think "Haha, cheesy movie, I enjoy it ironically" is an opinion worth defending, so that's not what I'm saying. I saw that and thought "Ha, tons of suspense and then a transition to way too many things happening to care about any of them, and finally a stupid reveal. He really *did* become the Stephen King." -

There's like too many layers of meta foot shooting involved with pastiche. I haven't seem mouth of madness since it came out, and at the time i took it as sincere. But then it failed with the reveal. It's totally valid that it lived on as a meta spoof with stupid monsters. Most horror movies do, but I wanted- and still want an actual legit scary cthulu movie. And that one failed with showing the monsters.

I agree with this, but I also like...he was doing a Stephen King pastiche. He *had* to show you some dopey-looking monsters or it wouldn't have been as funny.
Dark Star is an amazing movie and they had duck feet sticking out of a spray-painted beach ball and a dude wearing a muffin tray and a popcorn popper. -

Mouth of Madness was this close to being a fucking great movie.
Then they showed the monsters. NEVER show the cthulu monsters.
