Does anyone know in ranked choice voting, what happens to candidates who are unranked on a ballot?

Rank the one(s) you like at the top, the one(s) you absolutely despise at the bottom, and your best opinions for the rest in the middle.
After you stop ranking, you lose all say in the later rounds.
