Jacek Wesołowski (jzillw@mastodon.gamedev.place)'s status on Monday, 23-Sep-2024 19:51:03 JST Jacek Wesołowski @darth Fix schedules and always-online are publisher's decisions, patch sizes depend heavily on engine architecture, and performance issues were way, way worse back in the 1990s, because today "AAA" games are usually multiplatform and need to run on consoles (which are generally low-end machines).

It's actually impressive how many games can chug on a 4090 with a 5950x
yes some games had performance issues in the 90's but a lot of that was down to hardware varying wildly without common api's. Releasing a game in the mid 90's that looked like it had been made in 1980 but still has performance issues would have gotten you laughed out of the industry tho
