   @jeffowski this is a little close to my experience. I live in a very conservative area, my friends, family & acquaintances are all conservative, some leaning towards the far right, I love the people I have grown up with, I have lived here since birth (over 40 years) but I have made the decision to leave them all behind because I can't listen to their opinions & attitudes anymore, I tried to talk to them & find out why they hold these opinions, but after 10 years of speaking up I am exhausted.

     @jeffowski I know they love & appreciate me, they have been polite (mostly) towards me, some now joking that I am the only liberal in town, even to the point where they actually apologise to me when they express opinions they know I find abhorrent (which weirdly I find quite endearing because I know it comes from the respect the have for me) but I just can't be around it anymore, so I have decided to move to a more progressive community (hopefully) to run out the clock. It saddens me immensely.
