  I have been rallying against paper straws for literal years because 1) they make everything taste worse, 2) they are not allergy-friendly (or celiac friendly), 3) plastic straws are a valuable accessibility aid for many people, and 4) this is another way to shift the conversation away from how corporations are destroying the environment to place the impetus on individuals to save the turtles, which isn't going to do shit in the long run

    Ordering plastic disposable straws like some kind of deplorable. It's the only thing safe for a disability that includes severe gluten ataxia; gluten is often used in glue (rules out paper straws) and on shared production lines (rules out plant-based PLA/starch straws); metal straws are a injury hazard. (Please don't reply with takes that include lecturing about the environment and how I'm killing the planet. If you want to demonize someone, start with large-scale industry like power plants).
