Our landlady, via the letting agent has sent us 6 messages since she served the eviction notice to tell us that she was very mad we put a cat flap in the uPVC back door and that we will need to pay for it from our deposit.
She’s going to be so mad when she sees I’ve replaced the panel 😂

@nirak She can’t, there are really strict rules around that in the UK, she doesn’t hold the deposit it’s helt in a trust scheme where she doesn’t have access, it’s held by an intermediary, she needs to propose to us what she wants to take out based on quotes for getting the work done. We can then challenge it, or negotiate, if we challenge we can go to court and let them decide. Courts tend to find for tenants

@nirak I’ve seen friends talk about this! The thing in in rhe Uk is that they changed a bunch of laws around this and most tenants don’t know about the new laws, for example they can’t charge you for a deep clean out of your deposit. Our letting agent was saying he’d had a tenant manage to friction burn a big hole in a carpet with an exercise bike and the courts said it was legit wear and tear.

@BethanyBlack one of the last apartments I rented took the whole deposit even though they kicked us out because they were totally renovating the apartment anyway to rent it for more
