@ooignignoktoo @graf @coolboymew I already have an emulator handheld that works great, this thing is probably a lot better tho but it's pretty expensive.

@graf @coolboymew @sun I'd go for the lime green myself. Too bad these won't be attainable for reasonable prices because you'll have douchebag scalpers with bots buying them all up just to resell on ebay for 2-3x the price.

@coolboymew @sun I want atomic purple. I had that controller in my childhood for the N64

@graf @sun oh yeah, I bought a used controller of that color, it's quite nice
I was ultra jelly of the jungle green N64

@graf @sun got one already. I was jelly of the transparent plastic one, but I'll pass on these unless they add a major feature and redesign

@sun @graf It's nice so far
I'm pretty excited for the 3D, if they don't fuck it up and include hardware option to disable some built in hardware effects to your liking, this could be fantastic

@graf @sun do you have one already? I have one so I can answer questions, but, you better go for it as soon as it goes live or you'll miss out on your chosen color usually

@sun @coolboymew @graf Analogue systems are FPGA. The allure is it's hardware re-creation of original hardware and it can play real carts and it has a backlit screen and you can mod it with custom firmware to run roms off an SD card.
If I didn't have a gameboy and was in the market for one a Analogue console is in the right ball park if you want to buy a new GBA modded with an IPS screen and flash cart.
If you already got a console though it's probably cheaper to mod your existing one and get a flash cart for it.

@ooignignoktoo @coolboymew @graf I have an original afterburner kit installed in an original japanese GBA!

@ooignignoktoo @coolboymew @graf Afterburner was literally one of the first if not THE first, crowdsourced hardware mods, and one of the first crowdsourced anythings. I was hooked into the guy's blog while it was still called "Portable Monopoly" while he was testing out screen frontlights from Shenzen.

@sun @coolboymew @graf
Afterburners were the OG GBA mod. I remember seeing them in a GameInformer magazine article in the mid 2000's and thinking that was badass but at the time didn't have the technical aptitude to go about doing it.
The mod scene has come a long way since then now with laminated IPS drop in displays.

@ooignignoktoo @sun @graf I dunno, with the added FPGA cores you can put you can play a lot more than GB/C/A games on it. Practically almost everything under the 5th gen

@coolboymew @ooignignoktoo @graf it's tempting I just get more hackability out of my Linux handheld thingy

@sun @graf @ooignignoktoo oh, for sure, it's an ultra niche device if you have too much money on hands. You'd be way better served by the more powerful Android emulation handhelds generally
I usually recommend these kinda products to people who actually still have physical games to play

@ooignignoktoo @coolboymew @graf I would take a picture of mine and share it if I were home but I'm traveling. It's not perfect, there is kind of a trapezoid light pattern on it. But when it came out it was incredible.

@sun @coolboymew @graf I found this image and it's the same exact one from the article i saw on gameinformer in the mid 2000's
I had an after burner modded gba before the backlit screens in the late 2010's becaues it was a cheap mod and I was newer to soldering at the time. It worked mostly well except I had a hard time with loca glue curing on my screen to be the best lighting/image.
