> Every video is processed via Hive and Thorn to scan for content that requires a content warning or content that should be taken down (e.g. illegal material like CSAM).
This is why you will never be able to self-host Bluesky. They're going to enforce this. And it's illegal to give anyone access to Hive and Thorn.-

Sick Sun (sun@shitposter.world)'s status on Thursday, 12-Sep-2024 22:29:02 JST Sick Sun @feld Yeah I actually posted about this a few days ago. All the shit they do to make it a "viable" platform aren't decentralized or decentralizable. Doughnut Lollipop 【記録係】:blobfoxgooglymlem: likes this. -

feld (feld@friedcheese.us)'s status on Thursday, 12-Sep-2024 22:45:57 JST feld @raucao because your own instance isn't even close to being the same as what you see on the Fediverse.
You're basically offering your own storage and that's it. They have full control over everything else. -

Râu Cao ⚡ (raucao@kosmos.social)'s status on Thursday, 12-Sep-2024 22:45:59 JST Râu Cao ⚡ @feld How could they enforce that for your own instance? Wouldn't that just be a restriction for their own web UI and official client builds?

feld (feld@friedcheese.us)'s status on Thursday, 12-Sep-2024 23:47:54 JST feld @raucao because it's not actually federated. As someone else wrote the other day, a more accurate description is that the network is *brokered* instead of federated.
> Are you saying their goal is to never be able to self-host the full stack of services?
Yes. There will always be centralized control over the network. -

Râu Cao ⚡ (raucao@kosmos.social)'s status on Thursday, 12-Sep-2024 23:47:56 JST Râu Cao ⚡ @feld That can't be the end goal of the protocol design. Are you saying their goal is to never be able to self-host the full stack of services? Since you can use your own domain, how can you not just point to whatever you want for all of them?

Sick Sun (sun@shitposter.world)'s status on Thursday, 12-Sep-2024 23:56:16 JST Sick Sun @feld @raucao It's part of a giant government operation so that it can push policies it itself wants by laundering money through NGO grants to child welfare orgs that all donate money to each other to cover the trail.
Remember this when infosec guys claim that even child welfare orgs don't want chat control, who are you gonna believe, them or the welfare orgs that take money from the government and then put up billboards asking the government to protect the children.
SOURCE: me, I started tracing who were doing billboards that matthew green talked about one time and found a big net of companies that all donate money they got from the government to each other. -

I literally just looked at who ran thorn and then put their names into google and linkedin, then found where they worked and looked at their board of directors and their yearly reportings and realized this. -

Râu Cao ⚡ (raucao@kosmos.social)'s status on Friday, 13-Sep-2024 00:07:15 JST Râu Cao ⚡ @feld I'm failing to find where that central point of control is in the protocol, other than just the main instance censoring specific PDSs or domains. Which part of the system is run by a single entity that could censor my own instance?
