@mia I pretty much immediately got into thrash at that age and it was probably partly because it was around the exact same time that there was like the new wave of thrash bands (Skeletonwitch, Toxic Holocaust, Municipal Waste, Warbringer, etc.)
@nyx@swampwitch a lot of metal is forgettable to me these days. kinda happens when you’ve heard everything done 10 times over, each trying to be more overproduced and edgy than the last. there are very few albums i can play in my head without skipping over any titles. liquid anatomy by alkaloid is one of them
@swampwitch (with exceptions for fancy avant garde bands like Sigh that have more musical talent than just being technically proficient with standard rock band instrumentation. they get to be serious if they want)
@swampwitch yeah like, every now and then I'll be in the mood to listen to Seasons in the Abyss or their first two albums (which are more fun because they're just clearly doing Venom-influenced edgy bullshit) but I always am reminded of how they can make pretty much anything lame by trying too hard to be edgy while also being super serious about it
to be fair though this applies to a lot of metal and Slayer is probably to blame for a lot of that given how big of an influence they were on death metal. we need to retvrn to when metal was stupid and silly and theatric
