   @epsi @jexams And fedi effectively allows the model of hobbyists seeing being part of the network as a zero-sum game with people hosting their own bit of the network to join a bigger one.
   Network as a whole can sustain on people using pocket money level of funds.

     @lanodan @epsi Yep that’s sorta where I arrived after having had to move instances a few times. “Screw it I’ll do it myself!” At the very least, it means if the instance ever goes down, that’s (mostly) on me and not on some other instance owner.

     @Polychrome @epsi @lanodan Yeah honestly the main downside is having to put in the work to properly populate your feed but I figure “hey, I managed to do it a decade ago with twitter I’ll eventually manage it here”
