     @hj But these are not only IT-related people, these are all people who want to sell something (and those who have listened too long to those who want to sell something).
     Why would IT be any different?

     @hj There are cases where Java doesn't run everywhere but they're very rare. It worked really good, did it for 25 years and the only time it failed was when I was doing non-blocking IO, and it turned out I was just doing it wrong.

     @sun memory-mapped files work fine on linux/unix systems and absolutely abysmal on windows. If anything touches native or resources (disk/memory/serial/etc) stuff it's a nightmare

     @hj I mean, that is just marketing people, they do that everywhere.
     Like look into food labels or how cars are sold.
     More complexity means more confusion, which means they can get away with more in IT, I guess.
