I've been kind of halfhearted about both Obsidian (markdown based personal knowledge management) and Omnivore (new self-hostable read-it-later service) but the Omnivore PLUGIN for Obsidian suddenly has my attention…

@MichaelTBacon I'm really, really determined not to turn Obsidian into a CMS but every once in a while it's very tempting…

@MichaelTBacon Yeah, none of it is perfect, but there's something very compelling. Omnivore is definitely intended as a a personal “all my stuff" wrangler, and if you're not amenable to a giant folder full of folders full of almost-markdown it might not be ideal.
BUT… the idea of using these integrations to pipe select bits of articles, and quotes from books, into the same place that my personal note taking and planning lives? That's interesting…

@eaton I hadn't heard about Omnivore before. It's interesting on its own as an app, but I've had this idea for a news consumers' co-op that centered around a non-shitty reading and sharing app. I never wanted to get into building the app, but Omnivore, and possibly Obsidian integration . . . that's getting kinda close . . .

@jgarber funky, I actually went to the free tier of their hosted version beccause I didn’t want to spin up Google Cloud intances for it (vs. outting it on my own box). Gonna take another stab at it when the detangling of those requirements is complete.

@eaton I've been running this setup for a bit, and it is lovely. Though I have many, many saves over the years, and indexing can sometimes take a bit on Obsidian startup.
